Representative example 02 · Marketplace
Improving product content and data quality in a marketplace catalogue
This example shows how product titles, attributes, images and variant details that have become inconsistent across different seller panels can be brought into a controlled catalogue operation.
Starting point
Why is a decision system needed?
The same product may appear on different channels with missing attributes, different naming or incorrect variant relationships. Bulk, uncontrolled editing, however, can put category rules, current rankings or correct records at risk.
Decision question
The question the work will answer
Which products and fields should be corrected first, and how should changes be published so that they comply with channel rules and remain traceable?
Method
Four controlled stages
- 01Channel-level catalogue map
Catalogue consolidation
SKU, variant, category and channel records are matched using shared keys; unmatched or conflicting products are moved to a separate queue.
- 02Set of content quality checks
Quality rules
Checks for titles, descriptions, attributes, images and prohibited wording are defined together with category requirements.
- 03Approved pilot product pack
Pilot content production
A limited group of products with high commercial importance and significant data issues is selected; new content is prepared with human approval.
- 04Change and error log
Publishing and monitoring
Changes are applied in small batches; rejected fields, panel warnings and previous versions are kept on record.
Expected deliverables
- Catalogue mapping table showing SKU and variant relationships
- Mandatory field and content quality rules by category
- Priority product list with a justified order of work
- Pilot content pack with approval statuses
- Records of publication, rejections, corrections and previous versions
How is it measured?
- Ratio of products with complete mandatory fields to the total catalogue
- Number of variant, category and attribute mapping errors
- Rate of updates rejected by the channel, and the reasons
- Product view and conversion signals after content changes, interpreted with price, stock and campaign effects separated out
Assumptions and trust boundaries
- Product master data, stock codes, existing images and channel panel exports are accessible.
- Brand language and mandatory category fields are approved by authorised people.
- No increase in rankings, sales or conversions is guaranteed; the process aims to strengthen data quality and the decision trail.
- This content does not represent a real brand catalogue or an achieved commercial result.
- Marketplace rules and panel capabilities vary by channel; current rules are verified before implementation.
- Prices, stock, advertising budgets and campaign decisions are not changed without authorised client approval.
